All who are burdened

Day 7- conclusion

“So we did not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

This could sound almost flippant and dismissive, and would if it were being “preached” by someone who wasn’t experiencing the depth of suffering and struggle that Paul was. (See 2 Cor. 11:24-29)

His description, “the weight of glory,”  is fascinating to me. Is this Divine sarcasm?

The word weight means “a heavy burden”. Glory means “splendor, brightness, majesty, excellence, perfection, exalted state, all things belonging to Christ“.

THIS is going to be our “burden“ in heaven!

In the end, in glory, all of our burdens will be lifted, gone, made untrue.

In the same way that we are made for food and therefore feel hunger, so we long for our burdens to be lifted now because we intuitively know that this is how it will be. It’s what we are made for. It’s a window into the eternity placed in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

It is not yet seen, but it is surely coming!

Our work is to keep this glory in our minds, to look to it and pray for it regularly.

Spirit, help me.

Lord, have mercy.
