All who are lowly

Day 5 – Choices

“And he said, “There was a man who had two sons.  And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them…”

Luke 15:11-32

Here is the familiar story of one who has been brought low by his own doing, his own choices.

It seems that all too often, many of our poor choices and the resulting trouble have their roots in a wrong or incomplete view of God.

This young man believes life is better lived outside of his father’s embrace and care. He apparently sees his father primarily as his lotto ticket or Santa Claus, and the resulting life turns out to be far from the fantasy he was pursuing.

To his credit, his low state got his attention and turned him back home.

It’s worth noting that the older brother has a similar misunderstanding of life with his father. (Luke 15:29)

INWARD: Father, what do you want me to know?

Where am I not seeing you rightly? What are my blind spots?

OUTWARD: Father, what do you want me to do?

Write a prayer inviting God to reveal them to you and then pay attention to what he might show you.
