Day 4 – Longing
“Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.”
Luke 2:25-26
He is described as being righteous and devout, and as waiting. Simeon longed for the hope of Israel to come. He prayed for it, he sought after it. Day in, day out, turned into weeks, turned into years, possibly decades. Yet, the Spirit revealed that he would not see death before he saw the promised hope.
Simeon’s commitment to actively seeking, rather than just staying home or giving up, causes me to question once again: how actively am I seeking the hope of Christ in the world around me?
Inward: Immanuel, what do you want me to know? What is the Holy Spirit revealing to me? Where do I need to trust and seek out hope?
Outward: Immanuel, what do you want me to do? Is there someone who has been actively seeking hope that I can encourage? How can I encourage those around me who are searching for hope?
