Day 6 – The Long Journey
“And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.”
Luke 2:36-37
She was advanced in years, married for seven years, and then a widow. Now she is 84. She didn’t leave the temple, she prayed, and she fasted. The years have been long, yet her grip on the hope God would provide hasn’t lessened. Having known profound loss, she turned to the only one who offered peace.
What am I holding on to for hope? Is it a casual touch every now and then, or am I holding on like my life depends on it?
Anna’s hope was anchored in God, no matter what storms devastated her life.
Inward: Immanuel, what do you want me to know? What am I holding on to for hope? What am I trusting in for peace whenever storms may blow in my life?Outward: Immanuel, what do you want me to do? How can I encourage someone who is holding on tightly to You? How can I let them know that they are not alone?
