All who are weary

Day 5 – In the pit

I waited patiently for the Lord;

    he inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction,

    out of the miry bog,

and set my feet upon a rock,

    making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth,

    a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

    and put their trust in the Lord

As for me, I am poor and needy,

    but the Lord takes thought for me.

You are my help and my deliverer;

    do not delay, O my God!”

Psalm 40:1-3,17

The reality is that even as believers in Christ, we will be in the pit at times. Circumstances, trials will overwhelm us. In these moments, God is our rock. When others despair, He puts a new song in our mouth. One of hope, of praise. Not because all of our problems are magically solved, but because He is there, here, with us.

Just because trials come does not mean that we are forgotten. Circumstances and trials can never negate the presence and work of God in our lives.

Inward: Jesus, what do you want me to know? When I am weary, when I am needy, what are some of the ways that You provide for me? Where or what am I tempted to place my trust in apart from you?

Outward: Jesus, what do you want me to do? Is there someone around me who is in the pit? Someone who is going through trials?  I pray that Your presence brings the peace that only You can provide.
