Advent: Week 3 Day 5

Everlasting Father: Instructs

Proverbs 4:1-4, 7-9 (MSG)

Listen, friends, to some fatherly advice; sit up and take notice so you’ll know how to live.  I’m giving you good counsel; don’t let it go in one ear and out the other. When I was a boy at my father’s knee, the pride and joy of my mother, He would sit me down and drill me: “Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live! Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won’t regret it; never let her go—she’ll make your life glorious.  She’ll garland your life with grace, she’ll festoon your days with beauty.”

Psalm 25:4, 5, 8-10

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Acts 4:13 (emphasis added)

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. In your life, what gets in the way of listening to the Father’s instruction?
  2. In the verses today, where do you see the need to be humble and teachable?
  3. How do you get recognized as having been with Jesus? Be with Jesus! What might it look like for you to “be with Jesus” this week, this season?
  4. How can we encourage others to “be with Jesus”?
