Prayer for Good Friday

April 18, 2025

Theme: Overcome

Focus:

May our leadership be strong and courageous in navigating the challenges of tumultuous times.

1 John 5:3-5

3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Romans 12:21

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Dear Heavenly Father,

This Good Friday, we are reminded of darkness in the world as our friends in Tallahassee grapple with the aftermath of a school shooting at Florida State University.  Our hearts and prayers go out to all of those who were lost and impacted by the evil that took place.  Please provide divine wisdom to FSU and all university leaders across the world as each campus navigates these challenging times.

While this world is undeniably broken and in desperate need of healing, we know that You have overcome evil. We pray that Your light shines against the darkness on days like these.  Thank You for Your good and gracious gift of salvation which is given freely to all who believe and trust in Jesus.  Father, may Your kingdom come and Your will be done.  We are eternally grateful that You loved us so much that You were willing to sacrifice Your Son, Jesus so that sin and death might be defeated forever.  We cling to You with the promise that even in the darkest moments like the original Good Friday, that Sunday is coming.  Until then, provide us with peace, wisdom and courage to shine Your Light and Love toward all men so we may bring others into the family of Christ on the day You call us home.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
