November 25, 2024

Theme: Thankfulness

Focus:

That God would condition our hearts with a spirit of unity and thankfulness for the season ahead.

Psalms 9:1; 107:1

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds….Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Matthew 26:26-27

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.

1 Chronicles 16:8

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done

Dear Heavenly Father,

I wonder, if there was not a day on the calendar to recognize it, would many of us stop long enough to take the time to be thankful?  While not specifically a Christian holiday, giving thanks is something modeled for us throughout the Bible and by Jesus, himself.  Forgive us Father for charging through life focusing on things that may simply aggravate us or distract us from the life You intend for us.

May we reflect the spirit of gratitude in our relationships with one another in our families, on campus, in our churches, and within our community.  Help us to celebrate with grateful hearts our common ground, a sense of true purpose in loving You and serving others. May a blanket of peace settle down like a fresh snowfall to cover all that might separate us.

May we find gratitude for all You have given to us and all You have helped us through.  May we restore our daily prayers of thanks before meals, bedtime, quiet time, in hard times, and in good times. At all times, help us to be deliberate in recognizing and honoring You in our prayers for the abundant blessings that surround us.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
